On April 26, 2015, I had the opportunity to go back to the American Shakespeare Center and see Much Ado About Nothing. It was one of the best plays I’ve ever seen. It was so much better than I’d imagined while reading it. I was even able to get in on the action.
One of the most important scenes is Benedick’s gulling scene, when they hint that Beatrice is in love with him. While the others are talking, Benedick moves around the stage so as to not been scene. I ended up with Patrick Earl’s butt in my face. He turned around to me and simply said “Hi”. So unexpected, but so much fun.
I got some action in one of the later scenes too. After the botched wedding between Claudio and Hero, everyone is onstage, celebrating because everyone is now on the same page. Well there was a pole somewhat obstructing my view, and Leonato happened to be standing in front of it. He turned around to me and asked, “Am I blocking you?” I was about to tell him that no, he was fine; I could still see. But he moved anyway.
4/26/15: An amazing experience I will never forget.
