Towards the end of Thanksgiving break, I went to see Moana. Here’s a quick synopsis from IMDB:
In ancient Polynesia, when a terrible curse incurred by the Demigod Maui reaches an impetuous Chieftain’s daughter’s island, she answers the Ocean’s call to seek out the Demigod to set things right.
This movie was amazing. It was funny, and yet sad at some parts. I don’t usually cry during movies, but this one had me tearing up a little bit. But the music was the best part. I may be slightly biased because I’m obsessed with Hamilton, but even when he’s not rapping, Lin-Manuel Miranda CAN SING! Hence, “We Know the Way” is my favorite song. I could listen to it for DAYS. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched the clip of it on YouTube. I’d buy the song itself, but I don’t have any iTunes money right now.
Fangirling aside, the movie is really powerful. Moana is a strong character. She’s headstrong at times, curious, and confident. Kind of like me, if I do say so myself. But alas, I digress. It’s one my favorite movies. And no, not just because of Lin. I was happy to discover during the credits that Mark Mancina also worked on the movie. If I remember correctly, he wrote the book for The Lion King, my favorite Disney movie ever.
