Listening to Diego Torres on iHeartRadio this weekend led me to a Spanish-music-buying binge, where I bought a few more of his songs and bought the rest of Shakira’s new album, “El Dorado”.
People who have read my other post already know that Shakira is very important to me. Her music is catchy and upbeat, and the new album is no exception. There’s not a bad song on it. Most of it is in Spanish, but there are also three songs in English.
I was listening to it one morning, and I happened to come across Shakira’s iTunes biography. And it made her even more important to me. She’s a badass. And I quote:
When Gloria Estefan offered to translate “Ojos Así” into English, the prospect of a crossover suddenly seemed tangible, and Shakira decided that the most effective way to maintain control over her material was to learn English well enough to write in it herself.
That, my friends, is how you do it. If she can learn my language, then there’s nothing stopping me from learning hers. I just have to find the courage to keep going with it.
