Me in my Writing

In response to How much of me actually goes in the stories?

Pretty much all of my writing – except for my fan fiction, of course – is personal.  Honestly, outside of academia, I’m not sure I know how to write any other way.

The novel that I’m currently working on is based on the experiences in my life, and the main character is my alter ego.  All of my other characters – so far, at least – are based on my friends and other people that I know.  Of course, it’s not based on my entire life story – I’m not ready for an autobiography just yet.

Sometimes I wish I could separate myself from my work.  Take myself out of it, if you will.  But at the same time, I don’t think writing would be as fun for me.

Does this make me a narcissist or something?  I hope not.
