Kids were laughing in my classes
While I was scheming for the masses
Who do you think you are?
Dreaming ’bout being a big star
You say you’re basic, you say you’re easy
You’re always riding in the backseat
Now I’m smiling from the stage while
You were clapping in the nosebleeds
I’ve always liked Imagine Dragons, but “Thunder,” from their new album, “Evolve,” is my favorite song of theirs right now, hands down. This song – and more specifically, this verse – really hits home for me.
It keeps me focused on my goals and gives me confidence that I can reach them. It reminds me that I have people who support me, who are rooting for me. People who pick me up, dust me off, and tell me I am good enough – even when I’m not sure that I am.
And when I finally reach my goals, the same people will still be there, cheering me on because they never once took pause to doubt me.
And I won’t forget them. I won’t ever forget where I came from, or the people who helped me reach my goals.
Oh, and the title of this post means “thunder” in Spanish.
