Today is Super Bowl LII. The football game to rule them all. In America, at least.
Nothing frustrates me more than the fact that America uses the term “soccer” to describe what the rest of the world calls “Football”.
Because football implies something played with the feet, but we use our hands. I guess we still want to rebel against some things. It has never made any sense to me.
Spain gets real fancy. “Football” is translated as fútbol. And American football is fútbol americano. That makes so much morse sense, right?
If we were really naming sports after body parts, we’d call football “handball”. Then again, soccer uses everything but hands – aside from goalies, of course. So would that be “body ball”?
