I usually don’t care about spoiler alerts, but just in case you do, I have to say this post will contain Homeland spoilers. Today, I started watching the second season of Homeland. It picks up where season one left off – after CIA agent Carrie Mathison’s shock therapy. She ends up leaving – getting fired from – the CIA and teaching English as a second language. Oh, yeah, she’s like fluent in Arabic.
Anyone who has read this blog knows that I love languages. So, anything that has to do with language is really exciting for me. My psychologist has suggested teaching English as a second language (or tutoring people in general), since I have some Spanish under my belt.
I hadn’t really given it much thought until today, even though I’ve been saying I’d look into it. But when I saw that scene with Carrie in the classroom teaching, I thought to myself “Hey, that might not be so bad. It actually looks cool.”
It seems that sometimes it takes fiction to get something through to me. So I guess I have to thank Claire Danes as well. If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t be watching Homeland and I wouldn’t have taken the leap to rework my novel.
