Dragonfly in Amber

Well, I finally finished Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon, the sequel to Outlander. In 1968, twenty years after she went back in time, Claire Randall finally decides to tell her secret.
This book is perfection. Gabaldon really knows how to tell a story. The characters are so real; it isn’t hard to become attached to them. But my imagination came in spurts. Usually, I can see what is happening in my head with no problem; with this book, the scenes were fading in and out for some reason.
The book is quite long. I couldn’t put it down – to an extent. After a while, it seemed to drag on forever. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it. It was just really long and I wished I was done with it already so that I could read the books I got for Christmas. I have most of the series now, but I’m going to take a break from it and read something else.
I think part of it dragging on so much was that it was hard for me to follow the plot at times. But it was still an amazing story.

I Can’t Wait!

So, I was watching VH1 this morning and I saw the trailer for the Outlander TV show. I’m really excited because the book was really good. It doesn’t premier on starz until August 9, but if you go on the website, you can watch it tomorrow. I’m going to do it that way because I’m not sure if I get the channel.

Sassenach

It may have taken me a month, but I finally finished Outlander.

The year is 1945, and Claire Randall is enjoying a second honeymoon with her husband, Frank. They were apart for six years during World War II because she was a combat nurse. But as she steps through a standing stone in the British Isles, she is transported back in time to the year 1743, in a war-torn Scotland with Highland clans. She is a Sassenach, or outlander. While there, she meets Jamie, a tall, orange, handsome warrior.

It took me a really long time to get into this book. I don’t exactly know why. But once I did, I couldn’t let go. All the details did seem a bit tedious, but they made the story that much more vivid. Go check it out.

A Recommendation of Sorts

As you know, I just started Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. So, tonight, I was walking out of my uncle’s restaurant, when a lady noticed the book in my hand. She said, “That’s a good book!” She also told me that the ninth book in the series was released last week. And Gabaldon has been writing them over 20 years. It was a really cool and unique experience to have someone recognize the book.

Next on my List

Today I’ll start reading OUTLANDER by Diana Gabaldon. My friend gave it to me, so I’m going to give it a whirl. It’s also been made into a TV show on starz.
